St. Stephen's is not the only job support group. Many groups are geographical or specific to industries. The following is a list of sites that provide useful information for job seekers.

Special Meeting Materials

On April 30, Molly Mitch administered the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) to job support group members.  She returned on May 14 to explain the results.  This document is from a recent article on Monster.com.

On April 16, Rick Hatch talked about elevator speeches and ways to sell yourself as a job seeker using this document.  Here also provided documents on behavioral interviews, STARR technique, behavior-based questions, 10 most dreaded interview questions, questions you should ask, and non-verbal feedback.

On March 19, Scott Simpson, a financial planner, and Stephani Scheuermann, a health insurance specialist, from Focus Financial Network talked about Financial Concerns for the Unemployed.  Scott talked about options for your 401K or retirement options between jobs; the information is summarized in this document. Stephani talked about health insurance options, summarized in this document.  She also provided a form to obtain a health insurance quote.

On February 19, 2005, Beaver Adams talked about "Finding Your Passion".  As part of that, he talked about looking at your own strengths and weaknesses, using this document to stimulate us.

Job Search Tips

A good article on selling yourself to prospective employers is Sell Yourself the Steve Jobs Way and another, What Job Seekers Need to Know About Google, discusses your presence on the Internet.  Have you thought about relocating?  Finding a job in a new city addresses this.  Finally, Interviewing when you have a job addresses issues around this difficult issue.

All our tips are designed to lead you to your next job position.  However, that job interview can be tough - and full of difficult questions.  Richard Lemons provided us with 42 Difficult questions and answers.  This document lists these types of questions and provides suggested answers that you need to tailor to your particular circumstances.  Well worth reviewing when you get that prospective job interview.

Two recent articles in the Star Tribune referred to temporary work and freelance work.  Both offer options while trying to land that next position.

There are some benefits for the unemployed in the 2009 stimulus package.  In the Star Tribune on 2/20/09, they listed these, along with other aspects of the package, in this article.

Here are links to two recent articles about Linked In - which is being used heavily as a networking tool these days:
Getting Linked In
Linked-In Description

A recent article in the Wall Street Journal addressed some of the problems facing older applicants as they search for a new job. Here is the article.

The James J. Hill Reference Library in St. Paul is a business reference library. The Guide to Job Search Information introduces various free web sites and job search questions.  The Guide to the Job Search Strategy introduces resources that can help the job seeker answer questions.

Do you need a business card?  Vistaprint will create them free!

Ten Job-Networking Tips is an article from the Star Tribune of January 30th.  One of its comments is to prepare an "elevator speech".

Behavioral Interviews involve different techniques from the standard interview questions.  Read these notes and see how ready you are for this style of interview.  We plan to hold a session in April addressing these.

Becoming A Mega-Networker is another article from the Star Tribune and how to use this technique.

You must have an elevator speech prepared.  This document is a "fill in the blanks" form to help you get started.
