Midwest Premiere Feature of This Year’s All Souls Concert at St. Stephen’s

St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, will present its fourth annual All Souls Concert on Sunday, November 1st at 7:30 p.m.

The major work featured on the program will be the Midwest premiere of Stabat Mater by British composer Karl Jenkins for choir, soloists, and orchestra, under the direction of Larry Reynolds.  This powerful setting of the traditional Latin text that expresses the grief felt by Mary at the foot of the cross of her dying son also incorporates English and Aramaic texts. Mezzo soprano soloists, Shawn Stout and Maria Benson, will sing alternately in English and in Aramaic.  A 60-voice massed choir will be formed by combining the choir of St. Stephen’s with the Carpe Diem Vocal Ensemble (Clark Duhrkopf, director), and the choir of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Minneapolis (Karla Cole, director). Opening the concert program will be Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings and Charles Villiers Stanford’s Justorum anime.  The Moses Hogan arrangement of We Shall Walk Through the Valley in Peace will close the evening program.

All concertgoers will be given a chance to write the names of deceased loved ones in a 'Book of Names' as they arrive on the evening of the concert.  These names and others will be read during the 'Tolling of Names' as the low G in the outside bell tower slowly tolls.

A reception will follow in the Gathering Space.

Open to the public free of charge, the All Souls Concert is a perfect opportunity to invite your friends and neighbors to St. Stephen's.
